On May 29, an MCN agency issued a public apology via its official account for inappropriate remarks made by its affiliated accounts regarding Xiaomi Group and its founder, Chairman, and CEO Lei Jun. The agency pledged to strengthen the review of content published by its accounts to prevent future instances of content lacking objective facts or being misleading. It is understood that several accounts under this MCN had recently published a concentrated series of false content about Lei Jun and Xiaomi Group. Informed sources revealed that the MCN has been dealt with by relevant authorities in accordance with the law. Since the beginning of this year, regulatory authorities have continued to intensify efforts to combat false information targeting enterprises, aiming to clear the public opinion space and purify the online business environment for companies. In April, a case cracked by Shanghai public security authorities involving the use of AI technology to generate large volumes of false enterprise-related information provided a landmark example for comprehensively cleaning up misinformation and urging AI companies to implement standards such as labeling generated content. On the same day as the MCN's apology, the Cyberspace Administration of China announced the launch of a two-month nationwide campaign titled "Clear and Bright: Optimizing the Online Business Environment and Regulating Malicious Speculation on Enterprise-Related Information." The campaign will focus on rectifying four types of issues, including malicious speculation on enterprise information, AI-generated false information, and online "black mouths," to optimize the online business environment. Key tasks will include using AI to generate false enterprise-related information, maliciously defaming enterprises and entrepreneurs, and hiring online trolls to spread homogeneous negative information about companies.
