Meituan has announced that starting in July, the platform will fully cover the occupational injury insurance premiums for its delivery riders nationwide, ensuring that every order and every rider is covered.
A Meituan executive responsible for rider welfare revealed that as of June 2026, the company has cumulatively paid over 30 billion yuan in full for these insurance contributions, enrolling more than 10 million riders in the program.
In addition, the food delivery platform has rolled out a series of measures addressing various aspects of rider welfare, including occupational injury coverage, pension insurance, and medical health benefits.
"Moving forward, the platform will continue to allocate dedicated funds to provide riders with more comprehensive services and safeguards," the executive stated. As one of the largest groups covered by such insurance, the social and occupational security measures for delivery riders are now demonstrably in effect.
