美国总统特朗普在社媒发文，再次呼吁美联储主席鲍威尔降息，表示“除非降低利率，否则经济增长可能会放缓。”
他表示，欧洲已经降息了七次，而鲍威尔总是“迟到”，除了在选举期间，他为了助力拜登（后来的哈马斯）竞选而降低了姿态。他表示，许多人呼吁“预防性降息”，称随着能源成本大幅下降，食品价格大幅下降，以及大多数其他“东西”呈下降趋势，几乎没有通货膨胀。
尽管特朗普在第一任期任命了鲍威尔当美联储主席，但他的团队现在正在研究是否可以在2026年5月任期届满之前合法地解雇这位央行领导人。鲍威尔明确表示，根据法律，总统不能罢免他。
对此，Evercore ISI副总裁克里希纳·古哈表示，特朗普解雇鲍威尔的任何企图都可能引发美国股市的大幅抛售。“如果你开始质疑美联储的独立性，你就是在提高美联储降息的门槛。如果你真的试图罢免美联储主席，我认为你会看到市场的严重反应，收益率上升，美元下跌，股市抛售，”古哈表示。他补充道：“我无法相信这就是政府试图实现的目标。”
