AsiaInfo Technology, in collaboration with Xinjiang Mobile, has successfully deployed the first 5G private network project with a sunk core network in an oilfield across the Xinjiang region. This project establishes a high-standard 5G private network that meets stringent data security requirements for China National Petroleum Corporation's Xinjiang Oilfield Company, the largest petroleum producer in western China. This marks another successful practice for AsiaInfo in integrating 5G technology with the energy sector, setting a new benchmark for secure and intelligent transformation within the industry.
Using 5G to solve data transmission challenges, the project fortifies the oilfield's information security perimeter. For a long time, the secure transmission and efficient processing of production data have posed significant challenges in oil and gas exploration and development—traditional public network transmissions carry risks of data leakage, while remote well stations, constrained by complex and harsh geographical environments, suffer from unreliable signal coverage and transmission stability.
Xinjiang Mobile, partnering with AsiaInfo Technology, addressed the specific needs of Xinjiang Oilfield by leveraging 5G technology to build a dedicated network for oilfield operations, thereby advancing the upgrade of operational models in exploration, production scheduling, and remote equipment maintenance.
Relying on AsiaInfo's 5G private network core network product, the partners deployed four network elements (AMF/SMF/UDM/UPF) at the CNPC Data Center in Karamay and utilized MOCN (Multi-Operator Core Network) functionality to achieve base station sharing. This created a closed-loop system from data collection to processing, truly realizing the principle of "data not leaving the worksite." It resolves the challenge of compliant external data access and ensures the secure and stable transmission of oilfield production, industrial control, equipment maintenance, and disaster response data from the source, building a robust defense for operational information security.
AsiaInfo's 5G private network is an integrated hardware and software product system encompassing base stations, core networks, intelligent connectivity products, 5G CPEs, operation platforms, and edge computing platforms. In this project, AsiaInfo provided an innovative 5G public-private integrated network solution based on MOCN using its core network product.
Full core network sinking enhances data security: To ensure the security of all oilfield data, AsiaInfo deployed a fully sunk, integrated hardware and software 5G core network for the project. Characterized by its "lightweight and converged" nature, it enables localized processing and closed-loop circulation of all production data within the campus, achieving physical isolation from public networks and fully meeting the energy industry's rigorous data security demands.
MOCN technology integration saves costs: The solution innovatively uses MOCN technology to connect part of the public network's base station resources to the 5G private network core, enabling intensive deployment of network resources. This approach imparts private network attributes to public base stations while achieving high-quality network coverage at a lower cost.
A multi-functional network accelerates business operations: A single 5G private network can replace multiple previously independent networks for production and monitoring, simultaneously supporting various business services. Currently, these products are widely used across sectors including telecommunications, nuclear power, thermal power, wind power, photovoltaics, mining, transportation, and industrial manufacturing.
