Alibaba Group's DAMO Academy has entered into a strategic partnership with the Beijing Open Source Chip Research Institute and the Institute of Software at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The collaboration was formalized during the 2026 Xuantie RISC-V Ecosystem Conference held on March 24.

Under the agreement, DAMO Academy will contribute its expertise and experience in high-performance CPU development and commercialization. It will participate in the development of the next-generation "Xiangshan" open-source RISC-V CPU, exploring key technologies such as simultaneous multithreading (SMT), on-chip interconnection, and integrated inference-training architectures. The partners aim to jointly build a high-performance software ecosystem for RISC-V, create benchmark application cases, and accelerate the industrialization of RISC-V technology.

RISC-V is an open-source instruction set architecture recognized for its simplicity, flexibility, and scalability. It is widely regarded as an emerging architecture well-suited for artificial intelligence applications and has the potential to reshape the global semiconductor industry landscape.
