Hong Kong's inaugural facility dedicated to processing power batteries has officially received its "Chemical Waste Disposal License" from the Environmental Protection Department.

This license, granted after rigorous review, authorizes the facility, located within an eco-park, to fully commence operations including electric vehicle battery recycling and the production of black mass.

The facility is scheduled to begin formal operations within the current month, providing a green solution for the local electric vehicle battery recycling loop.

Under Hong Kong's environmental legislation, any facility involved in the disposal, processing, or recycling of waste must apply for this specific license from the Environmental Protection Department.

The scope of the license granted to this first-of-its-kind facility extends beyond electric vehicle batteries to comprehensively include rechargeable lithium batteries used in non-vehicular applications, showcasing its integrated processing capabilities in the power battery sector.

The facility employs a fully automated battery material production line integrated with artificial intelligence solutions, dedicated to the environmentally sound processing of locally retired electric vehicle batteries and their conversion into recyclable battery raw materials.

It is projected to process up to 10,000 metric tons of end-of-life batteries annually, equivalent to approximately 20,000 electric vehicle battery packs, converting them into battery black mass for supply to mainland China and surrounding regions, thereby supporting the development of the electric vehicle industry.

The successful acquisition of this license signifies that the facility not only possesses the legal authorization for recycling retired electric vehicle batteries but has also received official approval to formally produce and supply compliant "battery black mass," thereby completing a green, closed-loop system from end-of-life batteries to recycled resources.

ENVISION GREEN (HKEX: 01783)'s Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Guo Ke'er, stated that compliance qualifications are an indispensable cornerstone for developing the battery recycling business. The group will continue to uphold high standards of compliance, promoting the sustainable development of the power battery recycling industry amidst the global trend towards a circular economy.
