The Ministry of Education has officially unveiled the 2025 case list for national innovation projects focused on empowering key sectors through language technology, with several higher education institutions from Tianjin making the cut.
Among the selected initiatives is a project led by Nankai University titled "Wenxiu Large Model: Multimodal Intelligence Empowering Publishing, Media, and Education," alongside a proposal from Tianjin University called "Intelligent Interactive Robots: AI-Driven Mandarin Instruction for Ethnic Minority Regions." Also recognized were Tianjin University of Technology's "Intelligent Sign Language Translation: AI Perception Technology Enhancing Standardized Interpretation and Public Accessibility Services," and Tianjin Foreign Studies University's "Global Chinese Intelligent Training Platform: Digital Empowerment for International Chinese Education."
In November 2025, the National Language Commission launched a call for case submissions under this initiative, targeting critical areas such as educational advancement, technological innovation, cultural preservation, industrial upgrading, and social services. The program sought to address practical needs in language-intensive, language-dependent, and language-supportive application scenarios, collecting exemplary projects that demonstrate advanced technology, proven effectiveness, and scalability in leveraging language technology to drive progress in key national domains.
Following a rigorous process involving centralized applications, qualification reviews, expert evaluations, and public online disclosure, the final list for 2025 was confirmed. The initiative aims to promote and disseminate outstanding practices and proven models, accelerating the high-quality development of national priority sectors through language technology empowerment.
