Software Sector Reports Modest Profit Growth in First Seven Months, Industrial Data Shows

Data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology indicates that in the first seven months of 2026, China's software industry demonstrated a robust operational performance, with steady revenue growth, stable profit expansion, and sustained positive momentum in software exports.

During the January-to-July period, software business revenue reached 89.785 trillion yuan, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 9.2%. The industry's aggregate profit stood at 1.0396 trillion yuan, up 1.3% compared to the same period last year, while software exports amounted to 40.61 billion US dollars, marking a 12.2% year-on-year growth.

Segment breakdown of software business operations

Revenue from software products experienced steady growth, rising 6.3% year-on-year and accounting for 21.6% of total industry revenue. Within this category, fundamental software products saw revenue climb by 9.4%, while industrial software product revenue grew by 8.4%.

Revenue from information technology services maintained double-digit expansion, increasing 10.0% year-on-year and representing 68.7% of the industry's total. Notably, combined revenue from cloud computing and big data services grew by 12.3%, accounting for 16.7% of IT service revenue. Integrated circuit design revenue surged by 21.5%, and e-commerce platform technical service revenue rose by 5.1%.

Both information security revenue and embedded systems software revenue recorded moderate growth, with the former up 6.2% year-on-year and the latter increasing by 10.5%.

Regional performance highlights

Across the first seven months, software business revenue in the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions grew by 9.0%, 14.6%, 9.1%, and 4.9% year-on-year, respectively. The eastern region continued to dominate, contributing 83.9% of the national total.

The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area achieved 8.4% revenue growth, while the Yangtze River Delta region saw a 10.2% increase, with the two regions collectively accounting for 26.4% and 29.9% of national software revenue, respectively.

Among provincial-level regions, Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Shandong ranked as the top five contributors to software business revenue, posting year-on-year growth rates of 8.3%, 9.3%, 9.3%, 10.5%, and 7.0%, respectively.
