Norway's Sovereign Wealth Fund Warns Shareholder Rights Are "Weakening"

Norway's sovereign wealth fund has stated that it is concerned that "shareholder rights are weakening across numerous markets, threatening investor confidence and long-term value creation."

In response to these "concerning developments," the fund will take the following actions:

"Engage proactively with companies and key market stakeholders to maintain and, where necessary, strengthen shareholder protection mechanisms in each market where we invest."

"Monitor shareholder protection and shareholder treatment across our global portfolio, and continue voting in accordance with the Global Voting Guidelines to promote the full protection of our rights."

"Collaborate with academia to deepen collective understanding of how shareholder rights underpin the sound functioning of markets."
