GigaDevice (03986) Morning Session Slides Nearly 6%; Storage Sector Divergence May Continue to Widen as Supply-Demand Gap Gradually Narrows

GigaDevice (03986) fell nearly 6% in morning trading. As of press time, the stock was down 5.63% at HK$455.8, with a turnover of HK$287 million.

On the news front, Acer Chairman and CEO Jason Chen commented on the PC supply chain on the 19th, stating that not all memory is currently in shortage. Supply for products such as DDR4 and DDR5 has already increased, and the market is closer to a phase of high-level oscillation and price confusion. He also noted that rising storage chip production in mainland China could eventually ease supply constraints and put pressure on prices, with the impact becoming more apparent around the end of 2027.

Notably, "Big Short" investor Michael Burry said he has significantly expanded his short bets against the semiconductor sector. As manufacturers gradually restore capacity for ordinary memory and new supply from multiple regions worldwide is released, Burry believes that production of "normal DRAM" is recovering, the supply-demand gap will gradually narrow, and this will ultimately exert downward pressure on prices.
