On July 17th, Pan Asian Microvent Tech(Jiangsu)Corporation (ASX: 688386) announced its intention to acquire a 54.089% equity stake in Tianjin Tianyuan Electric for cash, thereby gaining control, with the two parties also signing a four-year performance-based agreement. The polyimide (PI) film primarily produced by Tianyuan Electric is a critical strategic material, listed four times in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's "First Batch Application Demonstration Guidance Catalogue for Key New Materials."

Currently, the global supply and demand for electronic-grade PI film is severely imbalanced due to surging demand from AI servers, HBM, and a lack of expansion plans by overseas giants. This price increase cycle is expected to last until 2028. The partnership between Pan Asian Microvent Tech and Tianyuan Electric aims to enter the high-growth market of high-end domestic substitution through business synergy.

Strategic Synergy in Low-Dielectric FCCL

In the field of low-dielectric Flexible Copper Clad Laminate (FCCL), their products are naturally complementary. Pan Asian Microvent Tech's ePTFE offers ultra-low loss and low moisture absorption, while Tianyuan Electric's PI film with low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) compensates for PTFE's thermal expansion weakness. By integrating their technologies, they have the potential to solve the industry challenge of combining PI's high thermal stability with low CTE. This could establish a first-mover advantage in applications like AI servers, high-speed backplanes, and GHz-level high-frequency transmission, capturing a share of the global FCCL/FPC market valued at over $70 billion.

Opportunities in Commercial Aerospace

In the commercial aerospace sector, Tianyuan Electric possesses the technical capability for aerospace-grade transparent PI (CPI) and military supply qualifications, while Pan Asian Microvent Tech's ePTFE is flexible and resistant to extreme space environments. Faced with a market for aerospace-grade CPI that is monopolized by foreign giants and commands high prices, the partners could leverage fluorine-modified PI and ePTFE composite technology. They could explore the entire industrial chain from "CPI slurry - film manufacturing - ePTFE coating," bypassing foreign intellectual property barriers and opening new opportunities in high-certainty fields like flexible solar array covers and space photovoltaics.

Advancing into Semiconductor Packaging

In the semiconductor advanced packaging field, Photosensitive Polyimide (PSPI) is a core, bottleneck material for Chiplet and wafer-level packaging, with a highly monopolized market creating an urgent need for domestic alternatives. The key monomer for PSPI remains PI, with a domestic self-sufficiency rate of only about 60%. By jointly developing supporting materials like optical slurries for PSPI, the two companies could help fill domestic gaps in advanced packaging and foldable display applications. Furthermore, the high thermal conductivity of PI film can provide thermal management solutions for chip packaging and humanoid robots in confined spaces.

Market Outlook and Corporate Transformation

Forecasts indicate the Chinese PI film market will grow at a compound annual rate of 18.3% from 2026 to 2030, potentially exceeding 22 billion yuan by 2030. This acquisition represents not just the development of a second growth engine for Pan Asian Microvent Tech, but a crucial step in elevating its product portfolio and entering the semiconductor application market. The company is poised to transition from niche segments into the vast potential of domestic substitution, which may lead to a re-evaluation of its valuation framework and a simultaneous expansion of its revenue scale and profit potential.
