American electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid Group Inc (LCID.US), autonomous technology company Nuro, and Uber (UBER.US) debuted the mass-production version of their autonomous taxi at the 2026 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2026), simultaneously revealing a passenger experience cabin solution led by Uber. The core highlights of this autonomous taxi are concentrated on its perception and interaction systems: the new vehicle is equipped with a next-generation multi-sensor fusion suite, integrating high-resolution cameras, solid-state LiDAR, and millimeter-wave radar to achieve 360-degree panoramic perception. A roof-mounted ring-shaped integrated LED light strip serves multiple functions; it facilitates quick vehicle identification for passengers, displays the passenger's surname initial, and provides real-time feedback on the vehicle's status throughout the entire service journey, from pickup to drop-off. Inside the cabin, a visual interface simultaneously displays the vehicle's real-time perception feed and planned driving route, clearly illustrating dynamic decision-making processes such as pedestrian avoidance, traffic light deceleration, lane changes, overtaking, and passenger drop-off. In terms of computing power, the new vehicle adopts the NVIDIA (NVDA.US) Drive AGX Thor autonomous driving computing platform, providing robust support for the real-time AI computations and system integration required for high-level autonomous driving. The three companies also announced that the autonomous taxi commenced road testing last month, a critical milestone ahead of the service's launch, laying the technical verification groundwork for its official deployment in the San Francisco Bay Area in the second half of this year. Currently, Nuro is leading the testing efforts, conducting road tests within the Bay Area using engineering prototypes equipped with safety drivers. Nuro Co-CEO Dave Ferguson stated, "The launch of this mass-production autonomous taxi in partnership with Lucid and Uber marks a significant milestone in our quest to scale autonomous vehicle technology." "By leveraging Nuro's mature Level 4 autonomous technology, Lucid's advanced vehicle architecture platform, and Uber's global operational network, we are building a truly practical autonomous mobility service system with long-term growth potential," Ferguson added. If the final validation phase proceeds smoothly, this mass-production autonomous taxi is expected to officially enter production in the second half of the year at Lucid's factory in Arizona. Regarding investors and partnerships, Nuro boasts a diverse shareholder base, including prominent institutions such as Greylock Partners, Woven Capital, the SoftBank Vision Fund, Sequoia Capital, Tiger Global Management, T. Rowe Price, Baillie Gifford, and Fidelity Investments. It is also noted that Mexican restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG.US) is a strategic investor. Concurrently, Nuro has established deep collaborations with several major US retail and tech giants, with partners including Kroger (KR.US), Walmart (WMT.US), Domino's Pizza (DPZ.US), CVS Health (CVS.US), Chipotle Mexican Grill, and Uber. Notably, Nuro has already partnered with the aforementioned companies to deploy autonomous delivery vehicles for grocery, food delivery, and prescription medication services in select US cities.
