On August 24, "Multiple reports of Meituan order refunds not received" became a trending topic on Weibo.
Previously, a "Meituan group buying coupon savings method" became popular among young people: after earning money, they would purchase various group buying coupons on the Meituan platform but not actually use them, then apply for refunds when needing money or wait for automatic refunds when coupons expired.
However, recently, some netizens posted that after group buying coupons expired, Meituan showed "refund successful" or "under Meituan review," but the related refunds have not been credited to their accounts for a long time. "Everyone using Meituan must check every refund!"
Following this netizen's reminder, some consumers checked their Meituan orders and discovered that refunds for related orders had indeed not been received.
Consumer Jin Li (pseudonym) told reporters that she had purchased a meal package on Meituan. Last December, after applying for a refund, she never checked the order status again until seeing the aforementioned post. Upon checking, she found that the refund had not been credited to her account.
Screenshots provided by Jin Li showed that at 7:35 AM on December 16, 2024, Meituan processed her refund application and approved it. In the same minute, digital RMB had processed the refund, but the return to the original payment method failed.
"The refund got stuck there when it failed, with no notification," Jin Li said. She never received any notification about the failed refund. After clicking into the relevant page this time, there was a "manual withdrawal" option button.
After Jin Li clicked "manual withdrawal," at 2:45 AM on August 21, the refund was credited to her bank account.
From a timeline perspective, Jin Li's refund process lasted eight months.
"This is really difficult to track! You need to reconcile account by account. After all, there are so many small purchases, and I regularly use Meituan for food delivery. Who would expect such issues from such a large platform? I'll pay attention to refunds in the future," Jin Li said.
Meituan customer service responded to some users' inquiries about "order refunds not received": Refunds are all returned through the original payment route. When (payment accounts) are abnormal or closed, refunds cannot be returned to the original payment account. If refunds are not received, users need to provide other bank accounts for the refund.
On August 24, Meituan customer service explained that refunds involve multiple channels, including bank cards and WeChat, with third parties involved in the middle, and problems might occur with third parties. "If it's our problem, we'll help users resolve it; if it's not our problem, we'll suggest users contact WeChat or their banks."
