KPMG has entered into a collaboration with AI company Anthropic to fully integrate the Claude AI tool into its global tax and advisory service platforms, aiming to enhance overall operational efficiency.

This partnership represents the first instance where San Francisco-based Anthropic has deeply embedded its Claude AI system into the core tax platform of a Big Four accounting firm. While some competitors have merely provided employees with access to AI tools, KPMG's initiative involves a comprehensive transformation of its primary global business platform using Anthropic's technology.

Tax and legal services constitute a key growth segment for KPMG. In 2025, revenue from this division increased by nearly 8% year-over-year, reaching $9.3 billion, compared to a 6% growth in audit services and only a 3% increase in advisory services.

According to KPMG, its employees and clients will utilize Claude AI for tasks such as document drafting, intelligent agent development, and document summarization. The business platform, which integrates client tax and legal data with internal analytics, will incorporate the Claude AI system, built on Microsoft's Azure cloud services.

KPMG is currently migrating portions of its advisory business to this new Claude-powered platform, with plans for full operational deployment by the end of September. Subsequently, more advisory services will be transitioned from legacy systems. This expansion means Claude AI will be applied across two of KPMG's three main business lines.

The core workflows and client delivery systems of the audit division will not directly integrate the Claude system initially. However, all of KPMG's approximately 276,000 global employees will have access to the full suite of Claude AI functionalities, similar to staff in other roles.

KPMG anticipates significant time savings from this integration. Tasks such as developing tools to comply with new tax regulations, which previously required several weeks, can now be accomplished in minutes using AI.

Rema Serafi, Vice Chair of Tax at KPMG US, stated: "This is not merely about adding a chatbot to existing tools. This system will fundamentally transform the way our employees and clients work, accelerating intelligence, efficiency, and innovation across the board."

The collaboration is mutually beneficial. Anthropic has designated KPMG as a preferred consulting partner to provide specialized advisory services to private equity firms and their portfolio companies. This move aligns with Anthropic's broader strategy to assist such firms in leveraging AI for software upgrades and operational acceleration.

Earlier this month, Anthropic, along with several private equity and investment firms, established a $1.5 billion joint venture aimed at selling commercial AI tools to mid-sized enterprises, including those backed by private equity.

Kate Jensen, Head of Americas at Anthropic, commented: "Anthropic, on its own, lacks the scale to provide one-on-one service to all enterprises. KPMG's longstanding professional credibility and industry expertise perfectly complement this gap."

Anthropic and its competitors are actively partnering with consulting firms to promote the practical application of their technologies. For instance, in February of this year, a competing AI firm collaborated with McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Accenture, and Capgemini, with technical teams from both sides working jointly on implementation.

Previously, Anthropic has also entered into agreements with other accounting firms such as Deloitte and PwC to co-develop customized intelligent solutions for various industries.
