In preparation for the upcoming Spring Festival, market regulatory authorities in Beihai City, Guangxi, have launched a special inspection campaign to ensure the quality and safety of medical devices during the holiday period. The initiative aims to strengthen oversight, enforce strict checks, and maintain safety standards to protect public health.
Adopting a problem-oriented approach, the campaign focuses on key areas and critical procedures, with inspections targeting urban-rural junctions, pharmacies, and primary healthcare institutions. Online sales platforms are also included to achieve integrated online and offline supervision.
For high-demand holiday products such as electronic thermometers, blood pressure monitors, surgical masks, and hearing aids—as well as higher-risk items like sterile implants—inspectors rigorously verified product registration or filing credentials. Illegal activities such as selling expired medical devices were strictly penalized.
Special attention was paid to cold-chain storage and temperature monitoring to ensure the integrity of devices requiring specific storage conditions. The regulatory effort emphasizes both supervision and service, promoting closed-loop management. Measures include policy guidance and encouraging self-inspections by enterprises to reinforce operator accountability.
Minor issues identified during inspections were corrected on-site, while entities unable to make immediate corrections were issued rectification notices. A tracking system for “rectification–review–closure” has been established, with follow-up inspections conducted to ensure risks are eliminated.
To date, inspections have covered 58 medical device operators, uncovering 15 issues and leading to rectification orders for 7 entities. The market remains generally stable and orderly. Moving forward, Beihai’s market regulators will enhance dynamic inspections and improve complaint channels to safeguard public health during the Spring Festival.
