Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel has announced that his team is developing artificial intelligence-driven solutions aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of BNSF Railway's operations.

When discussing this emerging technology, Abel stated, "There is no doubt that this technology can be extended to our other business segments in the future. We will develop the necessary technological solutions in-house and provide supporting services to our customers. This is a significant challenge and cannot be accomplished overnight."

The executive revealed that the company has specifically hired engineers and R&D personnel to develop related intelligent systems. The Chief Technology Officer of BNSF Railway is also fully committed to advancing the digital transformation of the business.

In recent years, the freight railway company has faced operational pressures due to declining freight volumes. To address its financial challenges, BNSF conducted multiple rounds of layoffs between 2024 and 2025.
