Dec 12

Consumer concept stocks mostly gained ground, with JIUMAOJIU (09922) rising 5.42% to HKD 1.75, HAIDILAO (06862) up 4.42% to HKD 14.64, CHABAIDAO (02555) climbing 6.06% to HKD 7.18, MENGNIU DAIRY (02319) increasing 2.53% to HKD 14.6, and LI NING (02331) advancing 1.8% to HKD 17.56 by the time of writing.

The uptick follows the Central Economic Work Conference held in Beijing from December 10 to 11, which emphasized boosting domestic demand and building a strong domestic market. Key policies include implementing consumption stimulus initiatives, introducing income growth plans for urban and rural residents, removing unreasonable consumption restrictions, and unlocking service consumption potential. High-quality urban renewal projects were also highlighted.

Galaxy Securities noted that the consumer sector should focus on medium-to-long-term targets outlined in the "15th Five-Year Plan," while short-term attention should be on specific policies for 2026. CMB International suggested three investment themes: 1) essential consumption (low-cost, high-value products), 2) compensatory consumption (affordable leisure and entertainment), and 3) defensive stocks with safe-haven appeal.
