Guangdong Province has officially announced a revision to its minimum wage framework, with the new standards set to take effect on September 1, 2026. The adjustments apply to both monthly minimum wages and hourly rates for part-time workers, according to a notice issued by the provincial government.
The updated wage structure divides the province into three tiers. The first tier, applicable to Guangzhou and Shenzhen, sets the monthly minimum wage at 2,680 yuan and 2,700 yuan, respectively. The corresponding hourly minimum wage for part-time workers in these cities is 25.4 yuan per hour.
The second tier, with a monthly minimum of 2,300 yuan, applies to Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, and Zhongshan. The hourly rate for part-time workers in these areas is set at 21.9 yuan.
The third tier, covering 15 cities including Shantou, Shaoguan, Heyuan, Meizhou, Huizhou, Shanwei, Jiangmen, Yangjiang, Zhanjiang, Maoming, Zhaoqing, Qingyuan, Chaozhou, Jieyang, and Yunfu, establishes a monthly minimum of 2,040 yuan and an hourly part-time rate of 20.2 yuan.
Under regulations from the former Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Guangdong Province Wage Payment Regulations, the minimum wage represents the lowest compensation an employer must pay a worker who has performed normal labor within statutory working hours. This amount excludes overtime pay, allowances for high-temperature or other special work environments, and other benefits stipulated by laws, regulations, or the state. The minimum wage standard consists of two forms: a monthly minimum wage for full-time workers and an hourly minimum wage for part-time workers.
