Smart Robot Deployed at Dongqian Lake During National Day Holiday, Technology Boosts Water Passenger Safety

During the National Day holiday, Ningbo's Dongqian Lake saw a surge in water tourism passenger traffic, with visitors streaming continuously at the docks.

To ensure water traffic safety in the lake area, Ningbo maritime authorities leveraged smart educational platforms, utilizing the maritime embodied intelligent robot "Hairui" to conduct on-site safety education, combined with multi-dimensional regulatory measures to build a dual protection network of "smart supervision plus intelligent education," fully safeguarding tourists' water travel safety.

At the Dongqian Lake distribution center dock, the maritime intelligent robot "Hairui" became a standout safety educator on site, winning over many passing tourists with multiple "superpowers," and was especially popular among children.

As a non-stop safety loudspeaker, the robot broadcasts boating safety reminders on a 15-minute cycle, promoting the national unified water distress emergency number 12395.

At the same time, the robot transforms into a "hundred questions, hundred answers" intelligent expert — once awakened, it can start interactive Q&A.

Questions about where life jackets are stored, how to self-rescue after falling into water, and precautions for rescuing someone who has fallen into water all receive easy-to-understand answers, allowing safety knowledge to sink in through the question-and-answer process.

"The intelligent robot deployed at the dock can broadcast on a loop and interact in real time, filling the gap left by personnel-based outreach and making safety education more tech-savvy and engaging," introduced Chen Sunlu, deputy head of the Dongqian Lake Maritime Patrol Law Enforcement Brigade of the Ningbo Yin-Feng Maritime Office.

Smart education and tech-based supervision complement each other, strengthening on-site control while making safety knowledge more vivid and interesting, and more easily accepted by both adults and children.

Many tourists at the dock gathered around the robot to stop and experience it.

Ms. Wang, a resident who brought her child to visit, said: "My child was especially happy to interact with the robot on site. While playing, they learned safety knowledge about boating and self-rescue after falling into water. This form of education is very novel and very meaningful."

Many children eagerly lined up to ask "Hairui" questions, creating a lively atmosphere on site.

While delivering smart education, the maritime authorities also strengthened smart supervision.

Through the "patrol boat plus drone plus CCTV" water-air three-dimensional patrol model, they strictly investigated and dealt with illegal acts such as overloading and risky navigation.

They coordinated with meteorological authorities for early warning and pre-control, promptly activating navigation prohibition and restriction mechanisms during severe weather, urging passenger transport enterprises to fulfill their safety responsibilities, and building an all-round defense line to ensure the safety of citizens' water travel.

"Next, we will continue to explore smart maritime applications, continuously enrich the forms of water safety education, empower water traffic safety governance with technology, and safeguard the public's safe water travel," Chen Sunlu stated.
