China Telecom, in collaboration with China Satellite Network, has recently received official approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to conduct commercial trials of the BeiDou-3 short message public application service. Once officially launched, users will be able to apply for the service through China Telecom's business halls or mobile app without needing to change their SIM cards or phone numbers. The BeiDou messaging service offers broader coverage, greater capacity, and lower access thresholds compared to existing solutions.
The BeiDou messaging service provides higher-precision positioning information and offers reliable communication support in scenarios such as emergency rescue, outdoor adventures, mountain climbing, deep-sea fishing, and scientific expeditions. The launch of this service signifies that China Telecom’s integrated space-ground product system now possesses dual-system satellite-terrestrial communication capabilities, combining Tiantong and BeiDou technologies. Through independent research and industrial collaboration, China Telecom plans to introduce more diverse and convenient application services in the future, including BeiDou voice messaging and "5G + BeiDou" high-precision positioning.
