Democratic Lawmakers Push Fed Chair Wosh to Reveal Conversations with Trump

A group of Democratic lawmakers is urging Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Wosh to disclose all his communications with President Donald Trump since assuming leadership of the central bank in May.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the request was made in a letter following reports that Wosh has engaged in periodic phone calls with Trump since taking office. Trump has repeatedly called for the Fed to lower interest rates, and the White House this month again attempted to remove Fed Governor Lisa Cook from her position.

Four Democratic senators emphasized that effective monetary policy depends on transparency and accountability mechanisms.

"The Fed has a responsibility to be transparent about these exchanges to demonstrate its independence from the White House, a principle you have stated you intend to uphold," the letter, signed by Senators Chris Van Hollen, Jack Reed, Angela Alsobrooks, and Elizabeth Warren, stated.

According to the public schedule for Wosh's first full month as Fed Chair, he held calls and meetings with lawmakers, White House officials, and private-sector economists, but no interactions with Trump were listed.

"As the leader of an independent institution, the Fed must make your conversations with the President public, as your predecessors have recognized," the letter continued.

Earlier this month, reports indicated that since Wosh's confirmation in May, Trump has called him multiple times to inquire about his forecasts and perspectives, though he did not push for any specific actions.
