On November 21, Lei Jun posted on Weibo that Xiaomi's AES (Emergency Steering Assist) function has successfully passed all four major test scenarios conducted by China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd. The tests included scenarios such as a motorcycle cutting in while driving in the wrong direction, a disappearing lead vehicle followed by a multi-car collision, a child darting across the road between obstructed vehicles, and a motorcycle forcing a lane change with an accident vehicle ahead.
Lei Jun explained that AES Emergency Steering Assist is a new safety feature developed by Xiaomi. When the AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) system cannot effectively avoid or mitigate collision risks, the AES function assists with emergency steering to evade obstacles—provided there is sufficient space and lane conditions allow.
