MetaOptics Ltd (9MT) announced on Jun, 26 2026 that it has started shipping evaluation units of its metalens-integrated 5G smartphone and AI smart glasses to prospective customers in Europe, Japan and the Philippines.
The evaluation programme enables consumer electronics brands, telecommunications operators and original design manufacturers in those regions to test the company’s glass-based metalens optical modules for potential use in their own products.
The 5G smartphone unit features an ultra-thin metalens camera module that eliminates the rear camera bump, a front-facing VGA colour camera for video calls and a non-contact 3D fingerprint sensor embedded in the display, all powered by the Qualcomm Dragonwing QCM6490 platform.
The AI smart glasses incorporate a compact colour metalens camera for gesture-based control, a lightweight design for extended wear and the Qualcomm AR1 Snapdragon platform for processing.
MetaOptics has also completed the design of a 12-megapixel colour metalens camera module, scheduled to be showcased at CES 2027, and plans to extend its evaluation programme to additional customers and markets over time.
