Major Supermarket Chains Announce Holiday Surcharges for Delivery Services

With the Spring Festival holiday approaching, major online shopping platforms have announced they will maintain operations during the period. Under this "non-stop service" policy, several platforms have adjusted their delivery fees. Sam's Club has issued a notice stating that due to strained logistics capacity during the holiday, a Spring Festival delivery fee of 3 yuan per order will be added to existing charges for deliveries placed between February 11 and February 24, 2026. This surcharge is intended to subsidize delivery personnel working through the holiday.

Similarly, Dingdong (Cayman) Limited has announced a Spring Festival service fee. From February 15 to February 21, 2026, an additional 3-yuan fee will be applied to each order, consistent with previous years, to address holiday logistics challenges. Many online users have expressed understanding for the surcharge, citing the difficulties of working during the holiday season.

However, some platforms have stated they will not adjust their fees. Meituan's delivery service, for instance, confirmed it will not raise delivery charges during the 2026 Spring Festival. Instead, the company plans to focus on subsidizing riders through cash incentives, weather bonuses, and welfare benefits to ensure both rider income and service availability. Taobao's flash delivery service will also incentivize riders to remain on duty with rewards, rank freezes, special meals, equipment subsidies, and travel benefits, investing nearly 2 billion yuan in rider subsidies from February 4 to March 3. For consumers, delivery fees will remain unchanged.

JD.com announced on February 3 that it will allocate over 1.3 billion yuan for frontline employee benefits during the nine-day holiday period. Beyond food delivery, several express delivery companies have also published notices regarding their Spring Festival services. Companies including SF Express, JD Logistics, and Deppon Express have stated they will strive to meet shipping demands by mobilizing logistics and human resources, ensuring continuous service. However, some courier services will implement a "resource adjustment fee," and delivery times may be slightly longer than usual.
