Shares of CITIC RESOURCES (01205) surged more than 8% during Thursday's trading session, climbing 8.65% to HK$0.565 at the time of writing, with transaction volume reaching HK$19.44 million.

The rally comes on the heels of a Tuesday evening announcement in which the company revealed plans to convene a board meeting on September 30, the upcoming Wednesday, to deliberate on the approval and distribution of a special dividend to shareholders. Subject to board approval at that meeting, the company will issue a separate announcement detailing the specifics of the special dividend in accordance with listing rules.

In the first half of this year, the company capitalized on elevated Alcoa share prices to trim its stake, unlocking approximately US$366 million in cash proceeds. As of the end of June, the company's cash and deposits stood at roughly HK$7.04 billion, nearly doubling from the end of 2025. Based on a straightforward calculation of cash and deposits minus total debt, the company holds net cash of about HK$3.2 billion.
