During its 2026 interim results briefing held on August 31, The People's Insurance Company (Group) of China Limited (ASX: 601319) addressed shareholder queries regarding dividend policy. Group Vice Chairman and President Zhao Peng stated that delivering long-term, stable, and predictable dividends remains the company's core objective.
Zhao explained that the group's segment layout and business structure differ notably from those of listed industry peers, which is why the company has not yet adopted alternative metrics such as operating profit as the basis for dividend distribution. He highlighted two key priorities in this regard.
First, the focus is on maintaining consistent growth in company performance, particularly earnings stability. Under the new accounting standards, short-term volatility in capital markets has intensified its impact on current-period profits. To counter this, the group adheres to a dual-wheel-driven development model, integrating underwriting and investment efforts to build a robust foundation for steady profitability and effectively absorb market fluctuations. On the underwriting side, the group will reinforce its earnings base through refined operational management. On the investment side, it will continue to optimize strategic asset allocation and enhance proactive asset management capabilities to smooth out performance volatility.
Second, the company is committed to delivering sustained and stable dividend growth. While benchmarking against industry practices, the group will tailor its approach to its segment layout and business structure, persistently pursuing a core strategy of steady per-share dividend increases over the long term. Simultaneously, it will actively explore refining dividend policies under the new standards to ensure the dividend yield remains at a reasonable and investor-friendly level within the industry. Through consistent cash distributions, the company aims to genuinely reward the trust and support of its shareholders.
