OpenAI and Singapore-based ride-hailing and delivery platform Grab have jointly launched a training program aimed at helping drivers, merchants, and couriers integrate ChatGPT into their daily work.
The initiative, which kicked off in Singapore, will expand to Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines, with an ambition to train approximately 30,000 participants over the next two years. Enrolled learners will receive a free three-month subscription to ChatGPT Plus and gain hands-on experience with practical AI applications.
Singapore serves as the first market for the rollout. The training workshops are designed to assist aspiring entrepreneurs in drafting and executing business plans with the help of ChatGPT. Meanwhile, established merchants will learn how to leverage the tool for sales analysis, financial data interpretation, and uncovering new market opportunities.
This launch comes as OpenAI intensifies its push to expand enterprise business beyond the United States. In May, the company announced plans to establish a regional hub in Singapore for forward-deployed engineers, a role focused on integrating AI products into corporate environments. OpenAI also intends to hire more than 200 technical positions in the city-state.
Grab Holdings, the region's leading super-app, brings a vast network of over 5 million driver and merchant partners, providing OpenAI with a substantial user base to promote AI adoption across Southeast Asia.
The partnership underscores a growing trend of AI companies collaborating with local platforms to democratize access to advanced technologies in emerging markets, potentially reshaping how small businesses and gig workers operate in the region.
