According to the "Beijing Huairou" WeChat public account, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has officially released the international standard "Plain bearings - Testing of the tribological behaviour of bearing materials - Part 1: Testing of bearing metals". This standard was led in its revision by innovation entities from Huairou Science City—specifically, the Zhongji Productivity Promotion Center Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as the "Productivity Center"), a subsidiary of Yanqi Lake Basic Manufacturing Technology Research Institute (Beijing) Co., Ltd., and Hefei Bolin New Material Co., Ltd. Experts from seven countries, including Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and Austria, participated in its development.
Sliding bearings are hailed as the "joints" of industrial equipment, with their performance directly determining the reliability, efficiency, and service life of high-end equipment such as heavy machinery, precision machine tools, high-efficiency motors, and even wind turbines and high-speed trains. For a long time, the inability to compare product test data due to differing testing benchmarks and methods has been a major difficulty hindering industrial development.
This international standard focuses on the demanding working condition of boundary lubrication, fully incorporating cutting-edge scientific research achievements and industrial practical experience. Through the verification of thousands of tests and the analysis of resulting data, it refines sample preparation, unifies test parameters, and imposes strict requirements for surface roughness and environmental conditions. For the first time, it establishes an internationally unified testing benchmark with high reproducibility, systematically addressing the long-standing industry pain point of insufficient comparability for the same types of test results on a global scale.
