Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari NV (RACE.US) is venturing into the cryptocurrency market through an innovative digital token initiative designed to appeal to tech-savvy young affluent consumers. The brand's top-tier collectors will gain exclusive access to bid for ownership of the 499P race car—a three-time winner of the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans—using these tokens.
This limited-scope project represents the automaker's strategic move to align with emerging luxury industry trends, as brands increasingly target young tech entrepreneurs whose wealth has surged alongside the global investment boom in artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers.
Ferrari has previously taken steps into the crypto space. Beyond developing its first electric vehicle, the company began accepting Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDC stablecoins for car purchases in the U.S. in 2023, later expanding the service to Europe.
For the token launch, Ferrari is partnering with Italian fintech firm Conio to introduce "Token Ferrari 499P," exclusively available to members of its elite Hyperclub—a group of 100 top clients. Enthusiastic endurance racing collectors can use the tokens for internal transactions and bidding rights to own this legendary car. The project is slated to debut in 2027, coinciding with the new season of the World Endurance Championship.
"This initiative aims to deepen the sense of exclusivity among our most loyal clients," said Enrico Galliera, Ferrari's Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer. However, implementation remains pending as Conio seeks necessary licenses under the EU's newly enacted crypto regulations.
Davide Rallo, Conio's Chief Fintech Strategy Officer and project architect, noted: "The growth potential in this sector is enormous." The crypto market has recently rallied, with Bitcoin surging 60% over the past year, partly driven by endorsements from figures like former U.S. President Donald Trump. However, regulators warn that speculative trading and lack of oversight could pose risks to investors and financial stability.
