Hainan University's College of Aerospace and Intelligence was inaugurated on February 10 at the Wenchang International Space City. Luo Qingming, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Hainan University, stated during the ceremony that the full launch of island-wide customs closure operations in the Hainan Free Trade Port presents a historic opportunity for the development of cutting-edge interdisciplinary disciplines. The College of Aerospace and Intelligence will focus on core areas such as spatial intelligence algorithms, remote sensing data processing, and spatiotemporal big data mining. It aims to meet the high-end demands of the aerospace industry chain by breaking down disciplinary and institutional boundaries, establishing joint laboratories, training bases, and innovation centers, and promoting the integration of education and talent chains with industry and innovation chains. This initiative will provide solid support for Hainan's goal of becoming an "island of talent and technological innovation."
Wenchang Mayor Cao Shuyu expressed that the city is currently in a critical period of high-quality development. The establishment of the college represents an important achievement of complementary advantages and shared development between the university and the local government, as well as a significant milestone for the high-quality development of the Wenchang International Space City. The Wenchang Municipal Government and the Wenchang International Space City Administration will ensure comprehensive support, including policy assistance, service guarantees, and resource coordination, to fully facilitate the college's development. They aim to cultivate new quality productive forces oriented toward space exploration and turn cooperative plans into tangible results.
The College of Aerospace and Intelligence will adopt a "one college, two locations" model, with the main talent cultivation activities taking place at Hainan University's Guanlan Lake campus, while Wenchang will serve as a key base for integrated scientific and educational innovation, achievement transformation, and practical teaching. By leveraging the resources of Hainan University, the Wenchang Municipal Government, and the Wenchang International Space City Administration, the college will address the needs of the aerospace industry. It will establish a high-level, international collaborative innovation system integrating talent cultivation, technological innovation, achievement transformation, and industrial development. This initiative will fill the gap in higher education talent training for aerospace technology in Hainan and support the province's goal of building a hub for aerospace technology innovation.
