On December 12, it was announced that the Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences has secured funding for two major projects under the 2025 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). This marks the first time SIA has been approved as the lead institution for such prestigious projects.

The first project, titled "Digital Twin and Robot Control Theory and Technology for High-End Equipment Assembly Processes," is led by Yu Haibin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and researcher at SIA. It aims to address critical challenges in high-end equipment performance assurance by studying multi-physics digital twin theory, the impact of assembly deviations on operational performance, and robotic process decision-making and precision control. The project seeks to establish a foundational theory and key technology framework for autonomous robotic assembly centered on "performance prediction-process optimization-precision control."

The second project, "Life-like Intelligence Generation Mechanism Driven by Robot Behavior," is led by researcher Han Zhi. It explores the integration of silicon-based and carbon-based intelligence, investigating multi-scale interaction mechanisms from cellular to behavioral levels. The research aims to develop novel approaches for generating artificial intelligence by studying life-like robotic intelligence.

According to the NSFC, major projects are strategically deployed to address significant scientific challenges aligned with national economic, social, technological, and security priorities. These initiatives promote interdisciplinary and comprehensive research to enhance China's foundational innovation capabilities.
