Mature, plump corn cobs stand ready for harvest. Photo by reporter Dong Xinying. Zhang Zifeng and reporter Dong Xinying report that during the National Day holiday, in the fields of Qing'an County, Suihua City, vast stretches of cornfields have shed their green and golden full ears sway in the wind. Roaring harvesters shuttle through the fields, completing ear picking, threshing, and bin unloading in one continuous flow. A picture of efficient mechanical harvesting and abundant grain with harmonious people unfolds across the land of Qing'an.
At the corn planting plot in Tongxing Village, Tongle Town, Qing'an County, large corn combine harvesters shuttle back and forth, precisely collecting golden corn ears while crushed stalks are evenly returned to the soil. Transport vehicles follow closely behind, carrying fresh grain between the fields and drying yards in an efficient and orderly fully mechanized operation. "My family planted over 60 mu of corn, and this year the growth has been quite good, with large ears and plump kernels. Now with fully mechanized harvesting, it saves time and effort. I harvested fresh grain, started early, and the yield per hectare is around 30,000 jin," said local planter Yao Huifeng with a face full of joy as he looked at a full load of harvested corn.
Tongle Town is a dryland farming town in the northern part of Qing'an County, with a total corn planting area of 79,000 mu. To ensure efficient autumn harvest progress, the town coordinated agricultural machinery and equipment in advance, reasonably planned harvesting routes, and made every effort to speed up the autumn harvest. "Our town has fully achieved mechanized harvesting, with daily operation volume reaching over 2,000 mu, and we expect to basically complete the harvest by the end of October," said Shi Donghao, candidate for deputy town head of Tongle Town, Qing'an County.
As a national advanced grain production county, Qing'an County deeply cultivates the advantages of cold black soil and continues to stabilize the scale of grain planting. In 2026, the county's grain crop sowing area will remain stable at over 2.7 million mu, of which corn, as the core dryland crop, has a sowing area of over 1 million mu. Currently, with the arrival of the autumn harvest season, corn harvesting work across the county is gradually rolling out. Townships are seizing fine weather, coordinating machinery, manpower, and technical resources, and advancing autumn harvest operations at full speed.
Behind the abundant harvest lies the integrated promotion of good farmland, good seeds, good methods, good machinery, and good systems. Qing'an County continues to advance the deep integration of the "five goods," vigorously promoting new corn varieties with high quality, high yield, and stress resistance, high-yield dense planting technology on large ridges, and integrated water and fertilizer technology for yield and quality improvement. It has gradually explored high-yield and high-efficiency technical models suitable for the region. At the same time, it organizes agricultural technicians to go down to the fields, advancing technology implementation throughout the process, guiding the prevention and control of diseases, pests, rodents, and weeds, effectively improving corn yield per unit area and quality, and building a solid foundation for abundant grain production. "We guide farmers to select high-quality, high-yield varieties, practice reasonable dense planting, precision fertilization, and green prevention and control, comprehensively improving corn's lodging resistance and disease resistance, with yield per unit area significantly increased. Currently, judging from field growth, the county's yield per unit area is expected to further improve, and the harvest situation is solid," said Fan Jun, researcher at the Qing'an County Agricultural Technology Promotion Center.
To efficiently advance autumn harvest work, Qing'an County planned ahead and deployed precisely, integrating the county's agricultural machinery resources. During the autumn harvest period, more than 700 corn harvesters and over 10,000 tractors and sets of equipment were put into use to accelerate autumn harvest progress. At the same time, it adhered to advancing autumn harvest and autumn field preparation simultaneously, coordinating straw return and deep loosening and land preparation operations to improve black soil fertility, achieving both harvest protection and black soil nourishment, and laying a solid foundation for stable and abundant grain production next year.
