Delta Expects Profit Boost with Capacity and Cost Controls

Delta Air Lines stock soared over 11% this week as the company forecast a better-than-expected profit for the current quarter and full year as it expects the industry's efforts to align capacity with demand to improve pricing power.

Like most U.S. airlines, the Atlanta-based carrier pulled its full-year 2025 financial forecast in April as President Donald Trump's trade war dented consumer and business confidence, hitting bookings.

Other US airline stocks also rallied after Delta Air Lines issued quarterly earnings. Shares of $United Airlines (UAL) and Southwest Airlines rose 6.5% and 9%, respectively.

FDA Approves Moderna COVID Vaccine for High Risk Children

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted full approval for Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine, Spikevax, in children aged 6 months through 11 years who are at an increased risk of the disease, the company said.

The shot was previously available for pediatric populations under emergency use authorization. Moderna expects to make its updated vaccine available for eligible U.S. population for the 2025-26 respiratory virus season.

Health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had in May said the U.S. has stopped recommending routine COVID-19 vaccinations for healthy children and healthy pregnant women.

Autodesk Weighs Takeover of Engineering Software Firm PTC

Autodesk Inc is evaluating a cash-and-stock deal for rival software maker PTC, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Shares of PTC Inc rose nearly 10% this week.

Autodesk has been working with advisers on a potential deal, the report said, adding that Boston-based PTC is also drawing interest from other industry players.

No final decision has been made and Autodesk could opt against pursuing a deal for PTC, according to the report.

Coinbase Acquires DeFi Protocol Opyn Leadership Team

Coinbase has recently completed a talent acquisition, specifically acquiring Opyn CEO Andrew Leone and its Research Lead Joe Clark. Leone and Clark will now join the Onchain Markets team, which operates within Coinbase's institutional organization, focusing on validated pools and other on-chain market product development plans.

According to Coinbase's official statement, "The Opyn team has been committed to the DeFi field since the early days; they were the original developers of the first DeFi options protocol, the inventors of Power Perpetuals, and the team behind Squeeth.

Dollar Tree Replenishes $2.5B Buyback Program

Dollar Tree added money to its share repurchase authorization, bringing it to $2.5 billion.

The reauthorization includes any amounts remaining under Dollar Tree's pre-existing program, the retailer said Wednesday. The board in 2021 approved a buyback with a limit of $2.5 billion, and the company had about $450 million in its program at the end of the first quarter.

"This refresh in our share repurchase authorization reflects the Board's confidence in our ability to generate strong, sustainable cash flow over the long-term," Chief Executive Michael Creedon said.
