The 62-day summer travel period for 2026 drew to a close, with Shanxi Aviation Industry Group data revealing a strong performance across the province's airports. During this period, airports collectively managed 32,000 aircraft takeoffs and landings, serviced 4.4903 million passenger trips, and processed 15,000 tonnes of cargo and mail.
From expanded flight networks to reinforced safety protocols and enhanced passenger services, the travel experience has become both safer and more comfortable. Throughout the summer, regional airports concentrated their efforts on densifying flight routes, tightening safety controls, and upgrading service quality, working in tandem to inject fresh momentum into both passenger travel and regional development.
Changzhi Airport introduced new round-trip services connecting Zhuhai-Changzhi-Harbin, Changzhi-Changsha, and Changzhi-Dalian, effectively opening up additional air corridors to southern China, the central region, and the northeast. Meanwhile, Yuncheng Airport launched a direct route to Xishuangbanna, establishing an aerial link between southern Shanxi and southwestern Yunnan, which creates fresh opportunities for cultural tourism and trade integration between the two areas.
Airports doubled down on risk management to shore up safety defenses. Yuncheng Airport conducted preemptive risk assessments ahead of the thunderstorm season and implemented a tightly managed, closed-loop flood prevention workflow. Datong Airport zeroed in on critical areas such as operations command, apron operations, and runway maintenance to continuously eliminate risks and hazards. Lüliang Airport stepped up patrols within the clearance zone to effectively mitigate bird strike threats. Mount Wutai Airport pushed its safety threshold forward, focusing on bird strike prevention, runway safety, and apron operations risk management.
Passenger-centric measures added a warm touch to the travel experience. Changzhi Airport opened a one-stop green channel for group travelers and implemented a flexible check-in cutoff extended by five minutes, serving 1,012 passengers with special needs. Datong Airport increased the frequency of its "Red Vest" volunteer support and set up a model worker service station, assisting 727 special-needs passengers. Lüliang Airport established a first-time flyer service desk, stocked wheelchairs, strollers, and first-aid supplies, and refined its one-stop care services for special groups. Linfen Airport formed a party member volunteer team and activated priority lanes, while Shuozhou Airport implemented a support mechanism centered on proactive outreach, early intervention, and full-process follow-up, achieving a zero-complaint record for passenger services during the summer period.
