On November 23, Yu Minhong, founder of New Oriental Education & Technology (EDU), penned another company-wide letter titled "Let’s Strive Together," addressing recent employee grievances and clarifying his intentions behind the initial communication.

Yu Minhong, who was traveling in Antarctica at the time of writing, apologized for inadvertently causing dissatisfaction among staff by using Antarctic-related metaphors. He emphasized that his aim was to foster transparency rather than flaunt his travels. "A boss who shares openly with employees is far more reassuring than one who remains aloof," he stated.

He also expressed regret for using red font in the letter, explaining that for his generation, the color symbolizes celebration rather than any hidden meaning.

Addressing criticism about "using employees' hard-earned money for travel," Yu Minhong deemed the phrasing inappropriate. He highlighted that while employees work diligently, company leaders also take on significant risks to sustain operations and secure jobs, framing the relationship as one of mutual effort and collaboration.

While acknowledging the leisure aspect of his Antarctic trip, Yu Minhong clarified that it also served a professional purpose. He met with experts in youth nature education, including renowned photographer Xi Zhinong, to explore potential collaborations that could benefit New Oriental’s future initiatives.

Yu Minhong urged employees to uphold the company’s reputation and resolve grievances through internal channels, inviting direct communication via email. He also noted his own long working hours, stating, "I’m certain I stay up no less than our teachers—just with different tasks."

Earlier reports revealed Yu Minhong’s plan to select around 10 employees for an Antarctic expedition next year, dismissing claims of extravagant cruise expenses (previously rumored at 1.48 million yuan). The controversy arose after employees criticized the timing of his trip amid heavy workloads.
