From August 15 to August 16, the "Crop Selection and Viewing" event showcasing new millet varieties and technologies was held in Aohan Banner, Chifeng City. This comprehensive gathering, integrating variety demonstrations, technology promotion, and industry discussions, injected strong momentum for Aohan millet—with its 8,000-year cultivation history—to advance toward higher-quality development stages.
During the observation event, over 300 participants gathered, including experts and scholars from the Crop Science Society of China, the Institute of Crop Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the National Millet and Sorghum Industrial System, along with seed industry enterprise representatives and major growers. Together, they witnessed new achievements, technologies, and breakthroughs in Aohan millet industry development.
Throughout the event, participants visited the Changsheng Village sorghum demonstration base in Changsheng Town, the 10,000-mu organic traceable millet demonstration base, and the national millet new variety research and technology demonstration base. Among these, the 10,000-mu organic traceable millet demonstration base and the national millet new variety research and technology demonstration base became focal points of the activity.
Located in Xiawa Town, the 10,000-mu organic traceable millet demonstration base employs simplified cultivation technologies. The precision hole-seeding method replaces traditional row seeding with hole planting, featuring 8,000 holes per mu with 5-7 seeds per hole, addressing the challenge of manual thinning. Full mechanization operations have promoted large-scale millet cultivation, with local growers commonly managing hundreds, thousands, and even tens of thousands of mu. The integrated water and fertilizer system reduces base fertilizer usage, primarily using flush fertilizers combined with drip irrigation for precise fertilization according to millet's water and nutrient requirements, achieving "fertilizer follows water" delivery directly to root systems and improving fertilizer utilization efficiency.
The national millet new variety research and technology demonstration base, located in Huangyangwa Town, serves as a specialized, large-scale variety demonstration platform built under the National Millet and Sorghum Industrial System. The base contains 87 new millet varieties from 12 provinces and 15 research institutes nationwide, representing cutting-edge achievements in China's millet research and providing a rich "gene pool" for variety upgrades in Aohan Banner.
"Aohan millet creates authentic Chinese flavor. We know that Aohan millet has now become deeply rooted in people's hearts, establishing itself as a prominent brand in China's millet industry and becoming a leader in the millet sector. It has created a series of driving effects for millet industrial cultivation and quality improvement, elevating the production level of the entire millet industry," said Diao Xianmin, a researcher at the Institute of Crop Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
