On January 6, Citi Bank released its latest exchange rate outlook, projecting that the renminbi will appreciate towards 6.8 against the US dollar over the next 6 to 12 months, a period expected to be accompanied by two-way fluctuations.

In the report, Citi economists, including Xiangrong Yu, indicated that in the short term, the exchange rate may fluctuate around the 6.9 level over the next three months, with the potential to reach 6.8 by the end of the year. Looking ahead to 2026, the volatility of the renminbi may increase, but the overall trend is still biased towards appreciation.
