Landslide in Yunnan Leaves Four Missing, Ministry of Natural Resources Activates Level IV Geo-Hazard Response

On August 23, two slope collapses occurred in Fengshan Town, Fengqing County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, leaving four people missing.

At 2:00 PM on August 23, the Ministry of Natural Resources activated a Level IV geological disaster defense response for Yunnan and dispatched a working group to the site to guide rescue and relief operations.

The ministry instructed the Yunnan Provincial Department of Natural Resources to immediately send an expert task force to the scene to assist local authorities with technical support during search and rescue efforts, and to apply lessons learned from the incident to enhance geological hazard inspections, monitoring, early warning, and preventive measures under similar conditions.

The China Geological Survey and the Geological Disaster Technical Guidance Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources were also tasked with strengthening expert coordination, organizational collaboration, and consultation and assessment efforts to fully support and guide technical assistance operations.
