Beijing Yanqing Opens New Agricultural Machinery Service Hub to Boost Suburban Harvests

On September 15, as the golden autumn harvest season arrived with fruit ripening in the fields, a Beijing agricultural machinery socialized service and smart equipment demonstration event was successfully held in Yanqing District.

Under the theme "Building Strong Regional Agricultural Machinery Service Centers and Improving the Quality of Agricultural Socialized Services," the event combined displays across seven functional zones—covering machinery operations, agricultural materials supply, and grain drying—with live demonstrations of smart agricultural equipment, providing a comprehensive showcase of the construction achievements of the Yanqing District Regional Agricultural Machinery Service Center and effectively addressing gaps in agricultural socialized services.

The launch of this center marks a successful transformation in the capital's agricultural service model, moving from fragmented and single-function approaches to a "one-stop" full-chain service system.

Focused on "Jingpin" agriculture and local specialty industries, the event showcased complete mechanization and smart technology for open-field vegetables including lettuce and broccoli, full mechanization for corn and coarse grains, unmanned intelligent agricultural equipment, and more than 30 sets of smart machinery from multiple equipment companies. Two integrated technical models for "Jingpin" leafy vegetable mechanized and intelligent production were introduced, alongside on-site explanations of agricultural machinery operation subsidy policies, facilitating precise connections between advanced equipment enterprises and new agricultural entities to further enhance service quality.

To address production needs and establish clear positioning, participants first viewed a documentary titled "Construction Chronicles of the Yanqing District Regional Agricultural Machinery Service Center," which illustrated the rationale, methods, and outcomes of the project.

In 2023, with guidance and policy support from municipal and district agricultural departments, Yanqing initiated construction of the service center. To overcome shortcomings such as insufficient machinery storage sheds and maintenance workshops, and a lack of drying yards and enclosed processing facilities, the district leveraged the service capabilities of the Beijing Zhang Shuan Agricultural Technology Service Professional Cooperative and partnered with the Beijing Yanqing District Supply and Marketing Cooperative, utilizing idle sites to fill gaps in post-harvest drying, processing, warehousing integration, and emergency response capabilities. This collaboration strengthened weak links including training, grain drying, equipment repair, agricultural materials and services supply, and specialty product sales, ultimately building a comprehensive center to improve the "agricultural materials + machinery + agronomic techniques" service system and support the "last mile" of farmer services, achieving mutual benefits and win-win cooperation.

To align with service demands and design a multifunctional platform, the center addresses urgent needs such as drying and storage, primary agricultural product processing, and machinery repair by establishing platforms covering agricultural materials and services, maintenance, post-harvest processing, and specialty product displays, completing a full-chain service system spanning pre-production, production, and post-production stages.

During the event, attendees toured the functional zones and their services. The agricultural materials zone integrated premium resources from the Yanqing Supply and Marketing Cooperative, showcasing efficient fertilizers, green pesticides, high-quality seeds, and water-saving irrigation for pre-production needs. The maintenance zone presented newly built standard machinery sheds and workshops, allowing equipment to be stored indoors to prevent rust and wear from exposure, while providing timely maintenance services to surrounding farmers to extend machine lifespan. The post-harvest processing and specialty products zone displayed new drying equipment with a capacity of 120 tons per day, ensuring that during rainy autumn harvests, grain can be dried and stored immediately to prevent mold losses, enabling farmers to sell at better prices during off-peak periods.

The center also features primary processing lines for corn and coarse grains, allowing farmers to locally convert grain into flour, millet, or corn grits, which helps build local specialty agricultural brands and broaden income channels.

Additionally, given the region's vulnerability to heavy rainfall and natural disasters in the mountainous areas of Yanqing, the center has strengthened its agricultural emergency disaster relief system. It regularly stocks emergency equipment such as tracked harvesting machines and maintains a professional emergency operations team to rapidly carry out post-disaster urgent harvesting and planting during extreme weather events, mitigating losses and serving as a safety net for regional agricultural stability.

Currently, the center covers a total area of 14,333 square meters with 2,650 square meters of buildings, is equipped with more than 120 advanced agricultural machines, has centralized management of over 5,000 acres of quality farmland, and maintains a stable annual mechanized operation area exceeding 80,000 acres, serving six townships including Jiuxian and Yongning.

To enhance service efficiency through digital and smart technologies, the center has strengthened its agricultural machinery socialized service information platform. The event featured a live demonstration of the integrated smart management platform developed by Zoomlion Heavy Industry, which monitors machinery operation trajectories and quality in real time, enabling efficient digital scheduling and management to reduce administrative costs and improve economic returns.

Notably, a range of smart equipment was showcased on-site, including full mechanization systems for open-field lettuce, broccoli, corn, and coarse grains, as well as unmanned tractors and electric-drive seeders. These demonstrations highlighted agricultural service equipment for key stages of open-field "Jingpin" vegetable production, integrating smart machinery into the socialized service system and expanding service categories to include vegetables and other crops, gradually improving service quality and efficiency.

Looking ahead, the center will fully leverage its demonstration role to promote the adoption of smart agricultural equipment, ensuring that these technologies truly reach the fields and deliver practical benefits. This approach enables smallholder farmers to access advanced machinery without the need to purchase expensive equipment themselves, helping them connect with modern agriculture through service support.

The event comprehensively summarized and promoted the "Yanqing Model" of cooperative-cooperative collaboration, which revitalizes existing resources and fills gaps in agricultural machinery socialized services. By demonstrating the center's exemplary leadership, this model aims to promote the district-wide development of scientifically planned, high-quality modern agricultural service centers that benefit farmers, drive the iterative upgrade of suburban agricultural socialized services, and inject strong momentum into the high-quality development of urban modern agriculture.

More than 150 participants from agricultural entities and agricultural machinery extension technicians across 13 agricultural districts in Beijing attended the observation event.
