At the 2025 Shanghai Stock Exchange International Investors Conference on November 12, Wang Li, Director and Acting General Manager of Kweichow Moutai Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote speech titled "Moutai's ESG Practices from a Global Perspective."
She emphasized that Moutai's approach to sustainability is not merely "ESG for ESG's sake." Instead, it integrates sustainable concepts with Eastern philosophy, Chinese culture, and corporate governance, forming an ESG system that embodies "harmony with nature, shared social value, and modernization of self-governance."
Wang Li outlined Moutai's ESG framework across three dimensions:
1. **Harmony with Nature** Moutai prioritizes green initiatives, establishing dual systems for environmental protection and ecological management. The company has achieved 100% green electricity coverage and was included in the National Low-Carbon Technology Catalog. It promotes circular utilization in water resource and solid waste management, while strengthening ecological oversight through initiatives like ecological monitoring of the Chishui River Basin and microbial community research, creating a "soil-to-soil" circular system.
2. **Shared Social Value** Upholding the principle that "quality is the soul of life," Moutai has implemented a full supply-chain quality management system. It advocates responsible drinking and marketing practices while fostering employee growth and diversity—women accounted for 35% of its workforce and 28% of managerial roles in 2024. Through its philanthropic foundation, Moutai supports ecological conservation, education, cultural heritage, rural revitalization, and regional development.
3. **Modernized Self-Governance** Moutai continuously refines its five core systems—strategy, budgeting, performance, compliance, and risk management—while exploring new market value mechanisms. Measures like cash dividends and share buybacks enhance long-term capital appeal. Wang Li noted that Moutai is expanding beyond traditional liquor production into biotech, digital technology, carbon neutrality, functional foods, and smart manufacturing, driving high-quality growth through innovation.
"Between the river valley and mountain peaks, what defines Moutai? It is the quiet perseverance in staying true to our roots while embracing the spirit of the times," Wang Li remarked. She affirmed Moutai's commitment to deepening ESG principles and collaborating with global partners to build a more resilient and valuable sustainable ecosystem.
