Global robotics leader GEEKPLUS-W (02590) has officially announced the appointment of Zhao Hao, an assistant professor and doctoral advisor at Tsinghua University's Institute for Intelligent Industry (AIR) and a BAAI Scholar, as Chief Scientist of its Embodied AI subsidiary. This move aims to tackle the application challenges of physical AI in unstructured environments by bringing in top academic talent, building core technological leadership, and signaling a continued commitment to increasing investment in embodied intelligence R&D.
Within China's academic landscape for embodied intelligence, Tsinghua University is a central hub. Zhao Hao, along with scholars Gao Yang, Xu Huazhe, Chen Jianyu, and Zhao Hang from the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (Yao Class), are collectively known as the "Five Embodied Intelligence Elites of Tsinghua." Distinguished from peers with overseas academic backgrounds, Zhao Hao is a native Tsinghua-trained leader. He completed his bachelor's and doctoral degrees in Tsinghua's Department of Electronic Engineering, previously served as a researcher at Intel Labs China, conducted postdoctoral research at Peking University, and ultimately joined the faculty at Tsinghua AIR. This unique career path has endowed him with deep academic expertise and sharp industry insight.
He is recognized as a pioneer in "scene understanding," focusing on geometric and cognitive-level scene interpretation to equip robots with the core ability to perceive the world. He is also a founder and leader of Tsinghua's largest robotics club, "Skyworks," which has incubated over a dozen tech startups, creating a closed-loop ecosystem integrating research, education, and industry.
Technically, Zhao Hao's research addresses the critical gap of "perceptual foundation" in embodied intelligence, enhancing the core interaction between intelligent agents and the physical world. He has published nearly 30 papers at top-tier conferences such as CVPR and NeurIPS and has won multiple international academic competitions. In 2025, his team's OnePoseViaGen method achieved high-precision 6D pose estimation of unknown objects using only a single RGB-D image without pre-existing 3D models, setting a new benchmark in the field, with the related paper selected as an Oral presentation at CoRL 2025. Additionally, he led the development of the DISCOVERSE embodied simulation platform, which supports robot task simulation across multi-scale scenarios, forming an educational-research ecosystem alongside the RDK UniBots platform. In December 2025, he chaired the World Models sub-forum at the GAIR global AI and robotics conference, cementing his authoritative status in embodied intelligence cognitive modeling.
Following his appointment, Zhao Hao will directly apply cutting-edge research in Sim-to-Real transfer, zero-shot generalization, and world models to industrial settings, focusing on three key areas to drive GEEKPLUS-W's technological advancement: 1. Reconstructing the robot's "full-scene perception brain" using advanced 3D vision technologies to solve precise recognition challenges in complex working conditions and enhance environmental adaptability. 2. Promoting the implementation of "generative simulation" and world models, utilizing neural rendering and generative AI to build high-fidelity virtual scenes and accelerate the iteration speed of embodied AI models by orders of magnitude. 3. Building a high-speed bridge between research and industry: leveraging his incubation experience from "Skyworks" to translate the latest algorithms into deployable embodied AI solutions, unlocking commercial potential.
Commenting on the strategic vision, GEEKPLUS-W Founder and CEO Zheng Yong stated: "As the company's 'General Warehouse Robotics' strategy advances and embodied products are deployed, we require the most advanced technology to support global scaling and accelerate the construction of an embodied intelligence ecosystem. In this uncharted territory of the global industry, there are no precedents. Dr. Zhao Hao, a seminal figure in Tsinghua's embodied intelligence field, will significantly enhance GEEKPLUS-W's technological foresight in perception and generalization. Combined with our profound commercial experience, we are confident in transforming cutting-edge laboratory achievements into substantial business value, making embodied intelligence a fundamental force for stimulating new quality productive forces and reshaping the real economy."
GEEKPLUS-W's ability to attract top academic talent stems from its robust technology and business closed-loop. Benefiting from extensive global warehouse customer resources and channel networks, the company has rapidly advanced in embodied intelligence: the unmanned picking station launched in late October 2025 passed the Proof of Concept (POC) acceptance by a major international client, validating both its technology and commercial viability. The recently launched Gino 1, the world's first humanoid general warehouse robot, leverages the Geek+ Brain embodied AI base model to achieve comprehensive coverage of multiple warehouse tasks and is already mass-production ready.
Currently, GEEKPLUS-W is the only company in the industry possessing a full stack of products and technological capabilities for warehouse scenarios, including mobile robots, specialized picking robotic arms, and general humanoid robots, offering customers end-to-end integrated unmanned warehouse solutions. The collaboration with Zhao Hao is set to help GEEKPLUS-W seize the next generation of technological high ground, injecting strong momentum into the high-quality development of the company and the industry.
