Ramin Kashef-Azar, the chief executive of Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport, stated in an interview with Iran's state broadcaster IRIB on Sunday that the airport has maintained operations despite U.S. sanctions targeting Iran's aviation industry.
Kashef-Azar said the airport continues to operate routes to more than 30 international destinations, and on September 23, the day the sanctions officially took effect, a total of 60 flights operated smoothly.
The U.S. Treasury Department added 27 airlines to its sanctions list on September 8, covering the remaining Iranian carriers that had previously not been subject to U.S. sanctions.
Subsequently, Oman and the United Arab Emirates suspended flights to Iran, and four airports in Iraq also halted flights to and from Iran.
