Petrobras has discovered indications of oil and gas in the pre-salt layer following drilling operations at the Marin Sul field in the Campos Basin.

The discovery was made in the well 3-BRSA-1397-RJS, situated approximately 113 kilometers from the coast at a water depth of 1,178 meters, near the city of Campos dos Goytacazes.

The company stated that the presence of hydrocarbons has been confirmed based on wireline log data, oil and gas shows, and fluid sampling. The collected samples will be sent to a laboratory for analysis to further determine reservoir and fluid characteristics, supporting subsequent evaluations of the area.

Petrobras confirmed that the drilling operation was completed safely, in compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, while respecting the environment and personnel.

The company added that its activities in the Campos Basin aim to replenish reserves in this mature oil-producing basin and support Brazil's energy needs during the ongoing energy transition.

The Marin Sul field was originally discovered in 1987. Petrobras is the operator of the asset and holds a 100% working interest.
