New Hope Corporation Ltd's stock surged 5.24% during intraday trading on Wednesday, following positive analyst actions and favorable energy market dynamics.

The movement was supported by Bell Potter upgrading its rating on the coal miner from sell to hold with a price target of $4.50, citing energy security concerns exacerbated by recent geopolitical issues. Concurrently, Jefferies maintained its hold rating but raised its price target to AU$4.80 from AU$4.40, noting the company is poised to benefit from tighter liquefied natural gas (LNG) and oil markets.

Analysts highlighted that New Hope's low-cost operations should underpin margins, and the firm is seen as a leveraged beneficiary of firm Newcastle thermal coal pricing. Energy security concerns and higher prices across the energy commodity complex are expected to support thermal coal demand, with a production recovery at the Bengalla mine projected for the second half of fiscal 2026.
