Senator Bernie Sanders on Thursday sharply criticized President Trump, stating that ordinary Americans are finding it increasingly difficult to afford soaring energy costs amid the ongoing conflict with Iran. In a post on X, Sanders referenced Trump's characterization of high oil prices as a "very low price" for the Iran war. He then emphasized, "Ordinary Americans cannot afford gasoline at $4.44 per gallon," adding that truck drivers are equally unable to manage diesel prices of $6.40 per gallon.

"Families simply cannot afford heating oil at $5.50 per gallon. End this war now!" Sanders declared. According to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), the national average gasoline price on Thursday stood at $4.4386 per gallon, while diesel averaged $6.3956 per gallon.

As fuel costs continue to climb, the Federal Reserve's decision to raise its interest rate range by 25 basis points has drawn criticism from figures across the political spectrum. Peter Navarro, a trade advisor to Trump, argued that in light of volatile oil and gas prices, the rate hike would harm the economy, as these prices effectively constitute a hidden increase that reduces consumer spending. Illinois Governor Jay Robert Pritzker also strongly condemned the decision, noting that the Fed raised rates due to the Iran conflict, while drivers have already spent an additional $107 billion since the conflict erupted in February.

Meanwhile, the United States may also impose restrictions on diesel exports. Senate Majority Leader John Thune indicated that the administration might be open to considering such measures to control domestic prices.
