ByteDance's Doubao is advancing on both enterprise and consumer fronts simultaneously, accelerating the construction of its AI assistant product matrix.
According to reports, Doubao is speeding up the rollout of its personal assistant product, planning to deeply integrate an internal exploration project codenamed "Spell" with Doubao's existing products, with the new product expected to launch relatively soon. This move comes as Meta and OpenAI have successively released personal assistant products such as Muse and "o", with overseas markets continuing to heat up, and Doubao facing pressure from international competitors.
Meanwhile, at the end of August, Doubao officially released "Doubao Work", an Agent product for enterprise office scenarios, further intensifying competition in the domestic office Agent market.
The simultaneous advancement of these two product lines marks Doubao's expansion from its previously relatively focused enterprise segment toward the broader consumer personal assistant market, attempting to build more complete product coverage on the critical AI assistant track.
Personal Assistant Product Accelerates: The Spell Project Emerges
According to information learned, Doubao's layout in the personal assistant direction began earlier than outsiders perceived. A person familiar with the matter revealed that in April of this year, Doubao internally began beta testing an exploratory personal assistant product codenamed "Spell", primarily led by the Doubao phone assistant team, but due to reasons including the Doubao phone launch, it was never officially disclosed to the public.
The person said that as personal assistant products such as Muse and Instinct have gained market attention overseas, Doubao is accelerating the pace of publicly releasing its personal agent capabilities. The new product plans to deeply integrate the Spell project with the capabilities of Doubao's conversation team, with both teams jointly responsible, and is expected to launch relatively soon.
From a product trajectory perspective, this layout has traceable origins. In December 2025, the Doubao phone assistant technology preview debuted, first equipped on the Nubia M153 engineering prototype developed in cooperation with ZTE; in September 2026, the consumer version was officially released, landing on the Nubia NaviX Ultra, emphasizing daily usability and stability more than the preview version. The Spell project and subsequent Doubao assistant products can be seen as Doubao extending the personal agent capabilities accumulated on mobile devices toward an independent application form.
Enterprise Front Already Deployed: Doubao Work Officially Enters Office Agent Market
Before the personal assistant product has officially appeared, Doubao has already completed its layout on the enterprise front first. On August 25, Doubao officially released "Doubao Work", an Agent product for enterprise office scenarios, positioned as an enterprise-level Agent for productivity scenarios.
According to official introduction, Doubao Work can autonomously break down tasks around user goals, invoke tools, and continuously advance complex workflows. Its basic capabilities cover daily office scenarios such as writing proposals, organizing meeting minutes, drafting reports, research summaries, and spreadsheet analysis, supporting the generation and editing of multiple content forms including documents, spreadsheets, PPTs, images, videos, web pages, and applications.
In more complex task scenarios, Doubao Work can directly operate browsers and computers after user authorization, handling data across software, collecting information, filling out forms, and comparing materials; for long-duration tasks, it can also invoke cloud computers for continuous execution, without interruption even if the local machine is shut down. Additionally, users can remotely control their computers via mobile phone, continuing unfinished work while away. In terms of multi-Agent collaboration, users can invoke tools in different professional directions such as data analysis, content planning, scientific research, and finance, or form multiple professional Agent "work squads" for division of labor and collaboration.
Currently, the PC version of Doubao Work is available for download through the official website, and users can receive a free 30-day subscription benefit after downloading, logging in, or upgrading. Doubao's entry adds another heavyweight player to the office Agent battle already ignited by Tencent, Alibaba, and Baidu.
Two Lines Advance Together, Competitive Landscape Intensifies
Doubao's current product layout shows a clear dual-line advancement: on the enterprise side, it enters the office Agent market with "Doubao Work", while on the consumer side, it benchmarks overseas competitors with a personal assistant product soon to be launched.
From a competitive environment perspective, the domestic enterprise market is already a must-win battleground for major players such as Tencent, Alibaba, and Baidu, and Doubao Work's entry will further compress the differentiation space for all parties; on the consumer personal assistant track, it faces direct reference pressure from overseas products such as Meta Muse and OpenAI "o", and domestic players' product pace and capability boundaries will face more direct market scrutiny.
For investors, whether Doubao can simultaneously achieve effective user scale and commercialization conversion on both fronts will be an important window for observing the competitiveness of ByteDance's AI business.
