Perplexity AI CEO and founder Aravind Srinivas stated on Friday that the startup's newly launched Comet browser can significantly enhance productivity, allowing businesses to avoid hiring additional staff.
In an interview, Srinivas explained: "Teams don't need to hire another person. They just need to use the Comet browser, which can assist with all the work you're advancing."
The CEO described this AI-powered web browser as a "true personal assistant" that enables users to accomplish more tasks within the same timeframe. He also mentioned that an individual could derive up to $10,000 in annual value from such productivity improvements.
Goldman Sachs' Chief U.S. Economist Jan Hatzius noted that various industries have begun implementing artificial intelligence to reduce workforce size and improve operational efficiency, though AI's impact on the labor market remains "limited" so far.
Srinivas estimates that "human digital knowledge work" generates approximately $25 trillion in value as part of global GDP. Therefore, a 20% productivity increase in this sector could easily drive $5 trillion in GDP growth.
