The surge follows data released by Haikou Customs on February 9th, showing that since the adjustment to the duty-free policy for Hainan Island took effect on November 1, 2025, the total duty-free shopping value supervised by Haikou Customs reached 11.585 billion yuan as of February 8, 2026, marking a 14.71% year-on-year increase. This period represents the first 100 days of the new policy. Furthermore, during the first week of the Spring Festival travel rush (February 2nd to February 8th), duty-free shopping value amounted to 1.106 billion yuan. The number of shoppers reached 191,900, and the total number of items purchased was 895,000, representing increases of 6.3%, 26%, and 9.4% respectively compared to the previous period.
