Redefining Computing Infrastructure: A Dialogue with BCI Founder Ju Jing

At the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Belém, Brazil, BCI Group founder and CEO Ju Jing shared insights on redefining computing infrastructure.

Ju Jing highlighted that traditional data centers treat power generation, energy storage, transmission, facility construction, and server deployment as separate processes—a model struggling to meet the dual demands of rapid computing growth and green transition. The "integrated energy-computing" approach, however, aligns energy and computing under a unified architecture, merging fragmented steps into a cohesive system.

Key shifts under this model include: 1. **Coordinated Optimization**: Energy systems and computing loads are managed under a single logic for peak regulation and efficiency. 2. **Capital Alignment**: Infrastructure attracts long-term capital, while rapidly evolving servers and electromechanical equipment suit debt financing. "Data center depreciation once spanned a decade, but computing hardware now refreshes in 4–5 years—soon even faster," Ju noted. 3. **Operational Control**: Ownership and operation must be integrated; fragmented management undermines competitiveness.

Ju cited BCI’s Datong project as a blueprint: vertical integration spanning manufacturing, renewables, power infrastructure, localized server production, and job creation. "Debt financing supports electromechanical systems, while equity funds long-term assets like land and facilities. We’ve even built schools and factories to drive regional industrial transformation."

Looking ahead, Brazil is under evaluation for expansion. "With abundant renewables, land, and surging computing demand, Brazil is ripe for infrastructure-led industrial clusters," Ju added. He envisions "integrated energy-computing" as the foundation for global digitalization and decarbonization, enabling regions to cultivate new industries from scratch.
