Nicor Gas today released its 2025 Community Impact Report, demonstrating the company's ongoing commitment to corporate responsibility through record-breaking community contributions.
The report reveals that Nicor Gas and its foundation donated over $6 million to 336 nonprofit organizations across Illinois in 2025, while employee volunteer service also reached a new high.
Company President and CEO Wendell Dallas stated, "This report shows how Nicor Gas 'powers life'—not only by providing the energy people rely on, but also by helping to bring stability, support, and possibility to communities across northern Illinois."
The company's community contributions focus on three strategic priorities.
In supporting basic needs, since 2021, Nicor Gas has collaborated with organizations like River Bend Food Bank and Hesed House to provide 22.5 million meals and 646,000 safe nights of shelter, cumulatively supporting 381,000 families, surpassing its previous commitment target of 250,000 families.
In environmental protection, the company is committed to preserving 10,000 acres of open space in northern Illinois and has already supported the conservation of 11,100 acres of natural areas.
Since 2021, partners have planted 16,500 pollinator plants and 12,000 trees, enhancing biodiversity and regional sustainability.
In promoting economic opportunity, through partnerships with organizations like the Illinois Science and Technology Institute and the Museum of Science and Industry, the company has infused $7.76 million into the community since 2021, helping to drive equitable economic growth and long-term development.
Regarding employee volunteerism, one employee, Liz Lytle, alone volunteered over 125 hours in 2025, primarily serving the Northern Illinois Food Bank as a volunteer lead.
In 2025, approximately 1,400 employees of Southern Company Gas contributed over 13,000 hours of volunteer service in their communities.
Nicor Gas is one of four natural gas distribution companies under Southern Company Gas, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southern Co.
Southern Co achieved adjusted earnings per share of $4.30 for the 2025 fiscal year, demonstrating solid financial performance.
